Bill Evans – Jim Hall – Undercurrent (1962/2024) [Jackpot Records – JPR 107]
Vinyl FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/192 kHz | Duration: 30:28 | 1,30 GB
Genre: Jazz | Label: Jackpot Record

Cut From The Original Analog Master Tapes By Kevin Gray. All Analog Process (AAA). High Quality Vinyl Release. Original Gatefold Design. All runouts are etched. In 1962, legendary jazz pianist Bill Evans collaborated for the first time on record with jazz guitarist Jim Hall to create the landmark album Undercurrent. And even though it is a two-person improvisational affair, it is almost unfathomable that these two giants alone fill up all the grooves on this record. The thoughtful interplay between these two musicians created such a beautiful, lush, and emotional journey that their work influenced many. At the time of this recording, Bill Evans was one of the top jazz pianists (his performance with Miles Davis on Kind Of Blue is still a high-water mark), but he had stopped performing and recording after the death of his peer, bassist Scott LaFaro.

THE BABY HUEY STORY: THE LIVING LEGEND is an audiophile necessity. Recorded in 1970, it is the only solo album by James “Baby Huey” Ramey. After his untimely death at the age of 26, Curtis Mayfield finished the production of the record and released it via his Curtom Records label in 1971. With tracks like “Hard Times,” which has been sampled by A Tribe Called Quest and Ice Cube, and gorgeous covers of “A Change Is Going To Come” and “California Dreamin’,” this album has become a cult classic among hip-hop and soul fans alike. In celebration of Black Music Month, this album has been cut from the original tapes by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering and is pressed locally on 180 gram premium-quality vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing’s brand new plant in Oxnard, California as part of Rhino’s new Rhino Reserve line.

Various Artists – Blonde On A Bum Trip (Original Soundtrack) (2025) [Modern Harmonic – MH-8310] [Vinyl FLAC 24-96]

Various Artists – Blonde On A Bum Trip (Original Soundtrack) (2025) [Modern Harmonic – MH-8310]
Vinyl FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/96 kHz | Duration: 29:38 | 325 MB
Genre: Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Soundtrack | Label: Modern Harmonic

They’re coming! The Hippies! The Acid Heads! BLONDE ON A BUM TRIP is a frank, revealing look at the LSD generation! Instead of using the usual jazzy instrumental library music or generic elevator pop, The Vagrants, The Bit’ A Sweet, and to a much greater extent The E-Types were recruited to propel the film’s lysergic journey. This serves as the first ever soundtrack to this film as well as a doctorate level exploration into The E-Types’ “Put The Clock Back On The Wall.” 1967 ushered in the Summer of Love and dozens of feature length psychedelic-themed films flooded theaters and drive-ins, opening minds across America. A number of black & white LSD films were made in the mid-1960s, yet Blonde on a Bum Trip (1968) stands out as something unique and different. Shot in NYC entirely in electric shades of gray, this motion picture comes across more like an underground student film and freaky fringe time capsule.

The music tracks are used effectively as a driving device and create an unmistakable mood, especially The E-Types relentless ear worm “Put the Clock Back on the Wall.” The Bit’ A Sweet’s “Is It On, Is It Off?” provides a delirious dance track. The other oddball “LSD” song that recurs in the movie was performed by a relatively unknown band, Thee Neons, fronted by John Wonderling. He would go on to have his own long career as a singer/songwriter. Russell Leslie, the drummer for The Bit’ A Sweet, also played with Thee Neons.

After nearly a decade in the making, we are pleased to say that the film now has a groovy soundtrack album! It’s Out of Sight – Out of Mind!

The Miles Davis: The Electric Years box set collects seven albums from one of the most daring eras of Miles Davis’ career — In A Silent Way, Bitches Brew, A Tribute To Jack Johnson, Live-Evil, On The Corner, Big Fun and Get Up With It. Starting in 1969 and ending in 1974, this box tells the story of a fertile period in Miles’ career, the third or fourth time he basically blew up the rules of jazz and made it again in his own image. Endlessly influential, these albums impacted basically every genre of music to follow in their wake. The albums have all been mastered AAA from 1-to-1 tape transfers of the master tapes by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound. With GRAMMY Award-winning Steve Berkowitz supervising and consulting, the 11 LPs featured in the box come on 180g black vinyl, pressed at GZ, and will be limited in the first edition to 2,000 units. You can learn the story of these albums via an extensive Listening Notes booklet written by jazz historian and critic Ben Ratliff.
